20 Initiatives of Punjab Gov. for Disabled Persons

20 Initiatives of Punjab Government taken for Disabled Persons

There were an estimated 3.28 million people with disabilities in Pakistan according to the 1998 census, the most recent available data as of 2015, including 1.37 million women. This would make them 2.49% of the population in that year.

There are 531 special schools in Pakistan and about 200 non-governmental organizations and disabled people’s organizations offering education to people with disabilities.

Initiatives of Punjab Gov. for Disabled Persons:

  1. Ensuring barrier free environment at public places with relevant departments by social welfare departments.
  2. Provision of Free Medical Treatment to PWDs and their family members in all Gov. Hospitals of Punjab.
  3. Facility to import Duty free Car/ disability friendly vehicles for PWDs
  4. 50% Concession in Air, Rail and Road Fares.
  5. Issuance of Special CNIC to PWDs
  6. Allowing a helper to sit in CSS and Other Competitive Exams.
  7. Access to banking service as it was not availed to blind persons.
  8. On Admission at Public University awarding of laptop to PWDs as incentive as well as provision of wheel chairs on Passing out from University.
  9. One seat reserved for PWDs in Higher Education . i.e M.Phill and Ph.D
  10. Waiving of all educational charges including Tution Fee,Hostel fee and Utility Charges on admission in Public  Sector Universities and Colleges of Punjab.
  11. No Age Limit forn taking admission in any educational Institutions  of Punjab.
  12. Approval of the establishment of low visionary Rehabilitation center of visually Impaired person (VIPs) in 13 Districts of Punjab.
  13. Celebrations of  “International White Cane Safety Day” on 15th October and ” International Day of Persons with Disabilities” on 3rd December of every year at Provincial District and Tehsil Level by Social Welfare and Bait-l-Maal , Government of Punajb.
  14. Integral Role of Social Welfare Department in Distribution of Khidmat cards to More than 68,000 PWDs.
  15. 6353 PWDs adjusted in different Private Establishments against 3% Quota.
  16. 601 Highly educated PWDs got recruited in different Universities and Colleges of Punjab.
  17. 690 Visually Impaired Persons (VIPs) , 351 Deaf and Dumb and 2947 Physically Disabled recruited in Different Gov Departments of Punjab.
  18. Recruitment of 3988 PWDs in Government Departments of Punjab.
  19. Increase of the Disable Quota in Government Jobs from 2% to 3%.
  20. Age Relaxation up to 10 years in the upper age limit of person with the Diabilities (PWDs)  for entering into Govt. Service.

and one more thing:

  • Advertisement of 4294 vacanvies against the 3% Quota in different Govt. Departments at District and Provincial level.
